Instructor: Odessa Koppfeldt
Time: Tuesdays 6 PM - 9 PM
Start date: Week 11 - March 10, 2026
Hours and sessions: 3h x 7 sessions  (break week 15 for Easter holiday)
Booking and registration: When you pay for the course, you are automatically registered and booked in your name for the course you purchase. Full refund within 14 days (according to the Distance and Off-Premises Contracts Act) from the date of payment. After these 2 weeks, a cancellation fee of SEK 500/spot will be deducted if you cancel. However, you can change your course to another time free of charge, subject to availability. The earlier you rebook, the greater the chance, of course, that you will get the spot you wish to change to. However, rebooking must take place at least 14 days before the course starts, after which 50% of the course fee will be charged. In the event of a cancelled course on our part, a full course fee will be refunded.

Course structure
You will learn various hand-building techniques (no wheel-throwing), how to best create different shapes, various decoration techniques, as well as an overview of engobes and underglazes. We will also learn about wedging, clay recycling, and other aspects of the ceramic process. Depending on your existing skills, your instructor will help you further develop.
During the course, we will gradually fire pieces that are dry enough. By the last session, everything made during the course will be bisque fired, when we will collectively glaze our works. You can either dip in transparent glaze or, after an introduction to brush-on glazes, you can also use those if desired (small Mayco jars available for purchase at SEK 50/each, approx. 35ml).

Session 1: Mandatory. Focus: overview of basic techniques
Session 2: Focus: overview of various decoration techniques as well as engobes and underglazes
Session 3-6: Practice and demonstration of various requested elements
Session 7: Mandatory: Glazing
Once the pieces are glazed, it will take an additional 5-6 weeks before they are ready for pickup. We will send an email as soon as the pieces are ready for pickup.

The instruction primarily consists of practical work under the guidance of the course leader. Maximum 13 participants

The course fee includes:

  • 3kg stoneware clay - thereafter SEK 100/kg
  • Firings, underglazes, and transparent glaze (brush-on glazes from Mayco are available for purchase extra at SEK 50/jar)
  • Coffee, tea, and cookies

Sustainable materials

The clays we purchase are therefore, as far as possible, from Witgerts, which has a strong environmental policy. The clays we provide are available in many different colors and grog grades.
